Training, schooling and staff tuition
Tuition
Clissy has taught up to International level since starting her own career. She is a BE accredited trainer and teaches at Whorridge all year round.
Occasionally we arrange 'away days' and Workshops.
Althea is developing into a very good teacher/trainer herself with several young pupils competing at all levels from Pony Club to International.
Clissy and Althea will be available at Bicton Arena to teach in the huge new all-weather arena with the full course of Show Jumps and when the weather permits, on the Cross Country course. They are both quite happy to travel elsewhere home or abroad!
As usual we have our little indoor arena here to use all the time here come frost, snow or dark – and haven't we been glad to have it this winter! Also we have the use of a fabulous all weather 60 x 30 metre arena a few miles away, so we have great schooling facilities on surfaces until the weather allows us outdoors here. We have the most wonderful field in front of the house and yard; level and large enough for a full set of show jumps, with plenty of room still for a 60 x 20 dressage arena on the grass – the River Culm runs along the edge for brilliant water practice.
Give us a ring on 01884 32274 (answerphone on that number) or on 07979 750857 if you would like to arrange anything.

Schooling, Livery, Owners
We have horses here at livery and for their owners to produce for competition either short term schooling or long term. In the last few years we have had several permanent "boarders" who have competed here with us from BE90 to International. We do take owners' horses in also to produce for sale. Clissyand Althea supervise all the liveries plus work and training and the results speak for themselves.
Our Students
We have brilliant students working with us. Over the years we have preferred generally to have
younger working pupils who are school leavers – with or without own horses – who are keen to learn “the business”. We like our students to be with us for at least a year, and can honestly say none of our ex pupils has ever had problem finding work in top yards – in England or abroad.
Our working pupils live with us on the farm in two mobile homes with a covered decking area between. They have their own bedrooms and we provide all facilities plus full board and lodging. We make no charge for training and tuition. We pay for their grocery shopping at our local supermarket and they cater and cook for themselves. We make no charge for board and lodging. If we have a student with a horse we work out some sort of arrangement allowing for keep, training etc. Anyone here with their own horse we try to produce as we would our own. The only problem with “own horses” can be transport – if we have room we take the students but to be honest having the availability of your own transport is best as we are often full up! We provide everything including TV, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave etc. The pupils have one day off per week which we arrange to suit everyone – plus some extra days over Christmas and holiday in the year.
We do also have students here full time on the Modern Apprenticeship Levels 2 and 3.
Everyone helps with all aspects of our stud work and the eventers – we have approx 80 visiting mares during the stud season – plus mares in to foal.
If any one is interested in coming to Whorridge we do like to start off with a “guided tour” type visit where we meet each other and hopefully your parent(s) and then to have any keen “would-be” students to stay for several days to see how the business works. If you live a long way away this can be combined; we have an excellent train and bus transport to/from Exeter (12 miles away) and Tiverton parkway (3 miles away) Cullompton is 5 minutes from us – a busy town with all “facilities” and right next to the M5 junction 28 – we can always drop off or pick up. Exeter International airport is only about 15 minutes away. We are always interested in talking to prospective students – short or long term.
The last few seasons have seen more International riders based here with us. Ann-Marie Vilk was with us for a very successful preparation for the Junior European Championships at Jardy (France) in 2014 - and competed previously with us at Melay again in France to gain her qualification. In 2014 the whole Spanish squad was with us for a month after Jardy CCI1* in preparation for the Bishop Burton Junior European Championships where we felt they did us proud ! Squad member Carlos Ramos plus his horse is planning on joining us as a student for 2015 which is great news.
